Our MD, Ben Guy, has been in the news recently after he was ‘highly commended’ at the Institute of Directors’ (IoD) East Midlands Director of the Year awards.
The awards “celebrate the high-performing business leaders from across the thriving East Midlands region”, with winners revealed at a presentation lunch at the Nottingham Conference Centre on June 30.
Ben was nominated for his commitment to the company over the past six years. He’s taken Phoenix Group from an ailing business operating in a low-margin, high-volume food supply sector and with no clear direction or vision into a firm with a sustainable long-term business model.
He’s also helped win new contracts, including big national retailers and well-known global brand names such as Aldi, ASDA and Vita Coco.

Ben faced tough competition in the Young Director category, and was pipped to the post by Marc Wileman, founder of Sublime Science, which teaches the fun side of science to children through birthday parties.
Ben said: “This is a fantastic accolade, not just for me, but for the whole team at Phoenix Group. The improvements and achievements that have been made over the last few years would not have been possible without their support.”
